When I first met Jane on a Saturday morning at one of the Battle Ground Village Outdoor markets I could feel from the start she was passionate about what she does, which is writing. We talked for a while about the Battle Ground Village and its potential for been such a great place for local businesses as well as community development. Right away she expressed her support for our business as a local farm. So I told her about Dan and I's vision of our farm and our plan to work with horses. When I told her we had made great connections with the Courtneys to learn about using work horses, she smiled. She shared she'd been wanting to write a story about the Courtneys but that this aspect of handing down their knowledge about working with horses was just enough reason to get started on the next Senior Messenger story. We exchanged contacts and throughout the summer we continued to talk on the phone or when she came to visit our farm stand at the markets on Saturdays. The story "The Courtneys and the Swanseys: handing down a legacy" came out this month. Thank you Jane for writing such a great piece on the Courtneys and the Swanseys! |
