Learning to Drive Lucy

Two weeks ago we received a short lesson from our friend Lester on how to hook the harness up to Lucy and drive her. It was another stepping stone for us, towards our goal of using Lucy to plow our 4 cultivated acres. Though eventually we will hook up a plow, we are practicing with a sled which is safer to start off with and which gives us more flexibility to move around. Right away we could tell that Lucy had done this before and that she had no trouble pulling the sled up our gradual hill. We are now trying to harness her up as often as we can to build up her endurance and work on our relationship with her. We seem to be improving as a team every day and she seems to be enjoying the routine exercises. We will continue to practice with the sled until we feel confident that we can safely hook up a chisel plow.
